What's In My Bag - Winter Edition

What's In My Bag - Winter Edition

This is what I have been carrying around in my bag lately. The bag that I have been using is one that I got for Christmas from Accessorize. It's a little out of my fashion comfort zone with the dark burgundy colour, but the classic design is so chic and I'm totally in love with it. So here is my what's in my bag.

  • Grey woolly gloves - these ones are amazing as they have a touch pad bit on the finger tips. So not more freezing hands while I'm trying to text.
  • 2014 diary - this is a must so I know where I'm meant to be and when and the small size means I can carry it round in my bag all day.
  • Pen - for writing in my diary on-the-go, plus I always seem to need one of these when I don't have one, it's best just to be prepared.
  • Purse - got this in the sale last summer from Accessorize. I've always been a big purse girl, I need one big enough to hold all my cards and receipts and in my opinion notes should be kept flat!
  • Train card holder - for easy access and because I love the grey snake skin pattern of this one from Kurt Geiger
  • Hand moisturiser - a particular must have in winter as my hand get so dry. Loving this lemon verbena one from M&S at the moment.
  • Compact mirror - this looks like a pretty hefty one to carry round but it's actually a light up one, and it amazing for nights out.
  • Phone - white iPhone 5
  • Umbrella - because I live in England.
  • Tic Tacs - I HATE gum, but after eating somewhere I need these.
  • Lip balm - My favourite at the moment is Body Shop Shea butter lip balm as it is so moisturising
  • Mini perfume bottle - for during the day top up. I have a small collection of sample perfumes and I like to mix up different ones everyday.
  • Comb/hair brush - I don't actually brush my hair all that often, but sometimes it just needs sorting.
  • Headphone - perfect for when I'm trying to cram in some extra sleep on the school bus.
  • Keys - complete with a cute heart key-ring from Monsoon.
  • Day makeup day - only my essential that I will need to top up during the day make it in here. These are powder, concealer, mascara, black eyeliner, powder blush and whatever lipstick I'm wearing that day.
  • Tissues - always need these when I don't have them.
  • Vasaline - I'm not a lip gloss girl but I put this over my lipstick when I want a glossy look.
  • Hair ties and grips - these always seem to be floating at the bottom of all my handbags. But there is nothing worse on a bad hair day than not being about to tie your hair back.
Hope you enjoyed reading this, comment below what your handbag essentials are.

Ultimate Pamper Evening

Ultimate Pamper Evening

My idea of the perfect evening is soaking in a candle lit bubble bath with a face mask on reading a magazine. After a busy and stressful week, whether it be from school or work, or just life in general there is nothing better than having a bit of me time. This weekend I went totally all out with mine, so much so that I made myself a long checklist of everything I would possibly need to pamper myself. So here is my guide to the ultimate pamper evening.

  1. Candles - I have so many of these around my room and in the bathroom. Nothing helps me to relax more than some beautiful smelling candles.
  2. Take your makeup off - you can't even think about pampering until your makeup is removed.
  3. Wash your face - wash away all the grime that's clogged up your pores during the day this is a total must if you are going to be using a face mask or anything else on your face.
  4. Steam your face - fill a large bowl with boiling water from the kettle and then hold your face over the bowl with a towel over you head. The steam will really open up your pores so that any mask you use afterwards is much more effective. Make sure that you eyes are protected when doing this and the skin around you eye area is very delicate and this may weaken it.
  5. Face mask time - the type of face mask you use depends on your skin type and what you want the mask to do. I love using the Boots 3-minute clay mask to remove all the impurities from my skin. Be careful to read exactly how long you should leave your mask on for or this could irritate the skin.
  6. Bubble bath - I recommend lots of bubbles, dimmed lights and lots of candles but it's really whatever you fancy, if your more a shower person then go for that
  7. Exfoliate - use a brush, rougher sponge, exfoliating gloves or a shower gel with exfoliating beads in. Scrub all of your dead skin cells away for beautiful smooth skin afterward. Don't be too harsh though as this may also irritate your skin.
  8. Moisturise -  once your out your bath/shower moisturiser is your best friend. This is such an easy step to skip during the week when your short of time but for a pamper evening this is a must. My favourite at the moment is the Body Shop Shea Butter body butter, in fact that whole Body Shop collection just smells amazing.
  9. Nose strip - these don't work for everyone but I find they are amazing for getting rid of blackheads around my nose. I like the Tea Tree Which Hazel pack of 6 from Boots.
  10. Pluck your eyebrows - this is something that I often forget about, but when I get round to really spend time shaping my brows I realise just how much it changes the way I look. I like to follow the pencil rule here.
  11. Facial massager - I don't really know what this does but it is so relaxing and feels amazing. Mine is this one from the Body Shop.
  12. Tone up - don't worry, I not suggesting you start doing any exercise right now! After using a face mask, particularity clay, skin can feel tight or dry. Use a gently toner and then some moisturiser for smooth soft skin. My favourite is Boots Rose Water.
  13. Exfoliate your lips - coat your lips in Vasaline or lip balm and then gently scrub them with a tooth brush to make them super soft. Then rinse with warm water, dry them gently and more more lip balm on.
  14. Spot treatment - dab a little Tea Tree oil on spots that you can feel coming through and they will have shrunk by morning.
  15. Manicure - shape and file those talons, moisturise those cuticles, paint those nails. A pamper evening must, I have nothing else to say.
  16. Pedicure - I HATE feet! But just because they are gross, particularly since they have been hidden in winter boots does not mean you can forget about them. In fact with Spring on the way (not really, but I like to think so!) they need even more attention. I like to coat my feet in foot moisturiser and put some socks on so they are lovely and soft when I get to pedicure time.
  17. Chill - now make yourself a hot drink sit back, put your feet up and relax, know them you now look beautiful. This is when girlie magazines are read and chick flicks are watched.
Hope you enjoyed my guide to an ultimate pamper evening and it inspires you to put aside an evening once a week to have a bit of me time. It's worth it, I promise.

MaXfactor Meteorite Mini Nail Polish

MaXfactor Meteorite Mini Nail Polish

I bought this nail polish with a lipstick on a buy one get one half price in Boots. I know, I'm a total sucker for a bargain. The last thing I needed was another nail polish to add to my ever growing collection, but this colour really caught my eye. It's a metallic navy colour with very fine silver glitter in. And I know that party season and New Years Eve is long gone but I'm still suck in this glitter, stars and sequin phase!

This is the first time I think that I have bought and tried a MaXfactor nail polish and I was pretty impressed. The texture was nice and the colour was thick but I used two coats to get it really opaque. And the colour is just beautiful and looks lovely when the light reflects on it. I'm still a total Essie girl at heart, but for the £2 on offer this is a total bargain. And can we please just talk about the adorable varnish name, Meteorite and the tiny little bottle...aww!

Also please excuse faintly blue hands, central heating is still not allowed to be turned on and I have bad circulation! At least it matches the nail polish, right?!

Oh My Aussie

Oh My Aussie

I've never really been a hair care obsessive and I guess that's because I found my ideal hair brand almost 4 years ago now. I do try out some other products every now and again and mix up my hair serum with my other Toni&Guy one, but I will always come back to Aussie.

I don't think Aussie is for everyone, but I have very thick, long hair and Aussie just works perfectly for me. When I was in my early teens and starting to mess around with straighteners and curlers my already naturally dry hair began to get even drier. And being my stubborn teenage self and often refusing to get my hair cut as I wanted it as long as possible probably didn't help either! I started trying out lots of different hair brands, but none of them really worked. Head and Shoulders gave me an itchy scalp which eventually led to dandruff, Herbal Essances smelt lovely but never really did much for my hair and TRESemme seemed to make my hair fall out! And at the height of my teenage hair disaster my mum even dragged me to the salon and spent a small fortune of some high end shampoos and conditioners, but none of them were any better than anything from Boots.

Eventually I found Aussie after it was recommend by a friend with similar hair to my own. And I have never looked back. If you have thick or dry or frizzy hair then this is your brand. Like all hair brands they do have different products for different types of hair, coloured, dry, damaged etc, but essentially this is the hair type they seem to be catering towards. So if this is you and you haven't already found your perfect hair brand pop down to Boots and give Aussie a try. And if you only try one thing make it the 3 minute miracle moist conditioner, I don't know what I would do without that stuff!

Sunday Layering

Sunday Layering

So yesterday I had a pretty lazy day, my grandparents were staying over for the weekend and all I really did was go on a family dog walk and sit at my desk getting confused over my A level maths homework. But the reason for this post is I found a very simple combination of my clothes that I really love. And now I will probably wear this to death until I'm totally bored of it, just like I do with songs!

Basically this outfit can sum up my style. Navy - check, grey - check, stripes - check, lace - check, pretty necklace - check. And that's about it really. The reason I layered up so much is because despite it still being the middle of winter my parents refuse to put the heating on for a long enough period of time for the house to be warm! So until Spring comes and I can get away this just wearing a top outside I will be layering just like this.

So if you are like me and most of your clothes are basic and pretty plain then why not layer them up? Simple, warm, comfy and pretty, what's not to like?

Eyeshadow Obsessive

Eyeshadow  Obsessive

The other day I was sorting though all my makeup, having a bit of a clear out of all the old stuff when I realised I have a bit of a problem. I'm a total nude eyeshadow hoarder. I think I just buy them because they look beautiful! And the sad thing is that I never actually wear half of these. I have some really beautiful colours here and even though the new year has started and I have already made my resolutions I'm going to have to add a new one on.

So this is my pledge to start trying out more of there many eye shadows, particularly the greys and the golden shades. I have to start being a bit more experimental with my make up, I'm only 17 and I've already got into the habit of wearing basically the same make up everyday. Concealer, powder, bit of brown eyeshadow, pencil in my brows, mascara and some vasaline. I blame school and lack of time in the morning for that! And I know what you are thinking, wearing a few different shades of nude eyeshadow is hardly very experimental. But for me it's a step in the right direction. You never know, by summer I could be rocking a bright lip!

Rimmel London Space Dust Review

Rimmel London Space Dust Review

I bought the golden pink colour, Aurora  from Boot on a 3 for 2 offer at the beginning of November. It looked pretty and as it was nearing Christmas I was having a bit of a glitter moment. I only expected it to be a thin glitter top coat nail polish so when I used it I was pretty amazed at how thick it was. I can't think of another nail polish to compare this to as I have never used anything with this texture. Its so glittery and thick so basically one coat and you're good to go. And it dries to a rough and almost 3D so you don't need to use a top coat and mine lasted several days without chipping at all too.

So after I was so impressed by this product I went out to buy the silver shade, Shooting star and the black/green, Total eclipse. How pretty are the nail polish names? They all absolutely gorgeous and by far the best glitter nail polish that I have used. The only thing that I will say is that you do have to have a bit of patience when it comes to removing them. I recommend that you hold a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover on the nail before rubbing it off. But it is totally worth it for how beautiful they look and how many compliments I get when wearing this polish.

There is also a hot pink, Luna Love and a purple shade, Moon walking in the collection. And for only £3.99 each you can't really go wrong. And now I feel like I should buy the final two just to complete my collection...

My Jewellery Storage

My Jewellery Storage

So as you can probably tell, I love jewellery. And not only do I love wearing it but I also think that your jewellery can add a really personal and pretty touch to your room decor. So above are some pictures showing the different ways that I like to store my jewellery around my bedroom.

| Cream jewellery box | Heart jewellery hanger | Glass cake stand | Plastic earring rack | Monsoon diamante jewellery box |

Cream Jewellery box - I got this a few Christmases ago and I still love it just as much. It's pretty big so it can hold lots of jewellery and has different compartment for rings and earring and lots of different sized drawers. I'm also glad that I chose a simple design and colours as it means that it will go with everything when my room design changes of I move it around the house.

Heart jewellery hanger - I got this this Christmas and I love it. It's so cute and pretty and goes perfectly with my bedroom decor. And it is a great way to decorate a plain wall.

Glass cake stand - My mum saw this while she was shopping at an antiques market and though I would like it. It's beautiful and was really cheap and I just store a few of my statement necklaces here. I think this is a really lovely unique way to store jewellery.

Plastic earring rack - My grandma got this more me for my 14th birthday and as far as presents from grandma's go I think this is pretty cool. I'm a bit of an earring fanatic and this can hold so many and it has room for studs and drop earrings. Although saying that mine is looking pretty full...

Monsoon diamante jewellery box - This was really expensive for what it is cus it's actually really tiny. I was ordering some stuff for my bedroom from Monsoon home and I needed to spend a bit more to get my free delivery. I think it was around £10 which is ridiculous and I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't for that. But it is very pretty and perfect for holding rings and earrings.

And in case you were wondering most of my jewellery is from Accessorize. Hope this helps you and gives you some ideas of how to store you own jewellery.

How To Make Nails Dry Faster

How To Make Nails Dry Faster

There are few things more tedious that the wait after doing your nails, it's like watching paint dry, literally. And when your in a rush to get to a party on a Saturday night and you still have to do you hair and find your clutch bag there's no time for your hands to be out of action. So when shaking your hands around and blowing on your nails aren't quite doing the job, here are my tips to get those nails dry as fast as possible:

  1. Use as thin coats of nail polish as possible - nobody wants thin streaky nail polish but too thick and you will be waiting around for hours for your nails to dry.
  2. Wait as long as possible between coats of polish - chances are are that you are in a rush and can't really afford to do this, but it is totally worth it. When I paint my nails I usually do four coats, base, two colour and then a top coat. Pile all of these on top of each other while they are still wet not only are they likely to streak but they will also take so much longer to dry.
  3. Use a fast drying top coat - kinda self explanatory!
  4. Once nails are painted hold them in very cold (icy) water - this is my favorite tip, so easy, totally works, and only takes about a minute.
  5. Use the cold setting of a hair dryer - similar to the tip above, nail polish dries fastest when cold. But be careful not to use the warm setting as this could melt nail polish and make it very sticky and make sure to hold the dryer a fair distance away.
  6. Use a fast drying nail spray - These take about a minute and work so well. Hold about 10cm away from nails when using. I recommend Elegant Touch Rapid Dry For Nails.
And finally to test if you nail polish is dry DON'T touch it with your fingers. There is nothing more annoying and when you basically smudge your nail polish on purpose! Instead gently tap the nails of your two litter fingers together, you will be able to tell straight away whether the polish is dry with the least amount of damage to your manicure.

Hope these help you and comment down below if you have any other tips that you want to share :)

Collar Combinations

Collar Combinations

If I were to try and describe my style to you the word "preppy" would probably have to be used. I just love a good collared shirt. They look smart and polished, are basically an accessory and they add another layer of warmth especially on these chilly days. I can wear these combinations at school with a suit skirt and a blazer and then at the weekend with a pair of skinny jeans. Which explains why skirts and jumpers take up nearly half of my entire wardrobe.

My advice when picking a collar and jumper combination is to keep everything fairly simple. If your shirt is patterned then pick a plain jumper and if you jumper is patterned then try and pick a shirt that is the same as one of the colours in the jumper. Or play around with different textures such as knitted jumper, flannel shirts and lace collars. There are so many different styles and ways to wear this combination.

So here is how I wear my collared shirts and I hope that they act as some inspiration for you. I'm going to stop before I start waffling about my love for collars!

A little sale shopping...

A little sale shopping...

January wouldn't be January without a little bit of sale shopping. And this year I managed to do all of mine without leaving my desk. One of my New Years resolutions this year has been to only buy things that I truly love. What's the point in buying a top for £5 in the sale if you never wear it? It's not a bargain, just a waste of money.

So I'm totally obsessed with all of these items and can't wait to wear them. I'm having a bit of a star print obsession at the moment and the navy top is just my favourite thing right now.
So if you haven't already done some sale shopping, hurry, cus I feel like I'm snatching up all the good stuff!

Jack Wills Star print top - Was £24.50  Now £19.00

New Year, New Me

New Year, New Me

I'm not usually the sort of person to make New Years Resolutions, they leave me feeling disappointed and annoyed that I have very little self control (particularly over chocolate). But this year it really is a New Year, New Me, and with this comes a list of things that I WILL keep to.

I've tried to keep my resolutions fairly short and simple. So here goes...

  1. Drink more water - I say this all the time, but like a lot of people I'm just not having enough water. I want to get to the stage where I'm asking for iced water rather than a Diet Coke in a restaurant. And then maybe my skin will thank me for it too.
  2. Do 50 sit ups before bed - I actually used to do this when I was about 15 and suddenly felt really insecure about my body. The results were pretty good and started to show quite quickly so I really want to get back into this habit.
  3. Go on a run once a week - I used to be a really a really good runner and did competitions and everything. But like a lot of other things I grew up lost interest and lost any talent I once had. It's one of my biggest regrets. But this year I want to start running again, its such a great way to clear my head and I feel so good afterwards. And maybe it will give me an excuse to buy one of those beautiful pairs of Nike trainers!
  4. Don't pick off my nail polish - its a bad habit that's ruining my nails, it needs to stop.
  5. Be more adventurous with food - I am the worlds fussiest eater and its getting embarrassing. The only place I can go to dinner is Pizza Express and even there I will only order a Margarita with ham. I want to be able to go out to a classy restaurant and not have to worry if they do chicken strips and chips!
So that's my list. I thought I should stick to five so they might actually be achievable! Let me know what your New Years resolutions are because I'd love to know.
